Meet the Hosts

The Autumn WiP-Along on Instagram was hosted by myself (@goslingandplumb) and Charlie (@lovecharlie.co). It was great to plan with Charlie and the WiP-Along was really successful – but really busy! We were both working full time, there was a lot of activity on the WiP-Along hashtags and at times it was hard to keep up with responding to comment and posts. So this time round, we’re sharing the load and we have teamed up with four more fabulous ladies! Here is a little info about each of them in their own words…

My name is Birgit and I was born in the north of Germany, but now I live with my husband and our son in a beautiful town near Frankfurt.

I learned to crochet and to knit at school. My first crochet attempt was supposed to be a neat rectangle, instead it had the shape of a dress as I lost one stitch after the other. This first swatch was pink, so I guess my favourite colour was born then, but I definitely worked on my technique in the years that followed!

Crafting in general and especially all woolly things are my creative island where I am able to recharge my batteries.

I love colourful yarn, crazy crochet ideas and taking funny pictures.

I’m Carrie and I’m a stay-at-home Momma of three awesome kids ages 17, 9 and 2. They certainly keep me busy! My daughter @sahrcrochet is my crochet partner in crime and I LOVE that she shares this craft with me.

I learned to crochet when I was around 10, so I’ve been dabbling for over 30 years! I come from a craft family, all of us are artists in one way or another so making things has always been a part of my life. Sewing, cross-stitch, dyeing, painting, you get the idea.

The name Harold and Claude comes from two giant stuffed giraffes my daughter had. I loved the crazy names, she came up with them, and even though she’s outgrown them, my sons still snuggle with them, so I suspect they’ll be around for a while.

I love, love, LOVE to encourage people*. Humans are so freaking awesome and we are not told often enough how cool we are, so I’m happy to do that when I can. I really believe loving people and calling out their inner amazing will change the world.

*And she’s very good at it too!

My name is Charlie, and I’m 23 years old. I love Crochet, Cats, my Fiancee Katie, Chocolate and Chinese food. My favourite colour is Burgundy, and my favourite things to crochet are… EVERYTHING! I also have a growing obsession with project bags and stitch markers…

Last year, I decided that I want to be a crochet designer, and the last 6 months, I’ve been working toward this goal. This year, I will have patterns published in crochet magazines, and I am continuing to work on my YouTube channel and blog www.lovecharlie.co  I absolutely love the crochet community we have online, especially on Instagram! I love how much support there is and how friendly and helpful our crafting Instagrammers are. I hope this WIP-along brings you new friends, followers, tips and tricks. Most of all, I hope you all have a productive, creative and joyful March.

I’m Hannah and I live in Angus, Scotland with my partner and our two young sons (born 2012 and 2015). My Instagram name is taken from the Cure song “A Forest” because I love trees and woodland.

I learnt to crochet about 10 years ago but before I had children I had a lot of different creative hobbies and it was something I dipped into now and then. All my hobbies took a backseat once the babies arrived until late 2016 when I decided to choose one and focus on it – and crochet it was. It’s easy to lose yourself as a parent to young children and crochet has given me something just for me. Crafting heals!

I love bright colours, and am interested in crochet as an art form as well as a means of creating practical items; I’ve recently started freeform crochet alongside working projects with traditional patterns, and I hope to design some patterns soon. As well as my family, friends and crochet I also love nature, reading, watching TV/films and listening to podcasts (documentaries, sci fi, comedy, drama), drinking tea, eating chocolate and spending too much time on Instagram.  I sometimes do a wee bit of drawing or sewing too.

My name is Sam and I live with my family in Sydney, Australia. I have always loved anything crafty. I loved drawing and painting in my high school years, although the last thing I painted happens to be the wall you can see behind me!

Fact: after crocheting my first blanket almost three years ago, it took me a whole year until I picked up my hook again (I know, can you believe it? It must have been an exhausting project!) I have been hooking away quite contentedly ever since!

I have flirted with knitting since the age of 10 and in recent months have become more serious about wanting to knit better, e.g. more than a scarf – although scarves are pretty! I remember as a girl, listening to my Nan’s knitting needles clicking away. She’s the inspiration for my Instagram name.

Other than yarn, I also love good books, chocolate, coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon/evenings and animals of all kinds (except creepy crawlies or creatures that will kill me!)

And finally, this is me, Laura, the face behind Gosling & Plumb. I’ve always loved to make things and have tried my hand at all sorts of crafty things over the years (some attempts were more successful than others…) Crafting and creating are life-long habits for me. Chatting with a friend the other day, she said she remembered coming round to my house after school and being amazed at the shelves of craft supplies in my bedroom! And not much has changed since school days, except that now I have my own house and craft supplies can be found in pretty much every room!

My name, Gosling & Plumb, was inspired by my grandmothers (and you can read more about them by clicking the tab at the top of the page, ‘Gosling & Plumb and Me’). Grandma Gosling was a keen knitter and Granny Plumb taught me to crochet. Crochet and knitting tend to be my main forms of creativity these days, although I occasionally dabble with embroidery, sewing and paper crafting and currently love doodling in my bullet journal!

I live in Somerset with my crazy cat Maisie. She’s pretty cute, except when she attacks my yarn… I’m pretty involved in the life of my church and especially love working with the kid’s group – they are some of my most favourite people in the world! I also love reading, a good cup of coffee, a bar of chocolate (or two!), fresh flowers, candles and crocheted blankets – basically anything that keeps me cosy!

So, now you’ve met us all, why not introduce yourself? Pop over and see us on Instagram to say hi, or tag us in a post – we’d love to meet you!
